Interbeing…an awareness of the interrelationship between all things.
I figure most people will look and see an orange and wonder, what’s the big deal? Well, according to Thich Nhat Hanh in contemplating the orange above, one should see the sun, soil, and water that nourished it, the hands that picked and served it.
This is so profound. I have not thought of an orange in such terms before. Now I can see why St. Paul wrote, "rejoice always, give thanks" for upon thinking deeper about the orange, I see how God is in the whole process…and it fills my heart with gratitude.
I was enjoying a warm shower, when it struck me…for me to enjoy such a warm shower, there has to be a source of water, a reservoir where the county gets it towns water, a myriad of pipes and valves, a water boiler, a lot of humans involved and least but not last a shower stall decked with tiles and a pvc floor…and at that moment my heart was flooded with gratitude to God for being the source of water (He separated the water from the land), the source of human intellect to put together all the things and parts necessary to make such a complex water system, the iron ore from the earth and it’s entire process to turn into pipes…I can keep going…indeed we have so much reason to thank God. If only we took a moment to look deeper than appearances…
Next time you find yourself doing anything…or eating anything…take a moment to be grateful.
Be Happy
