Interbeing…an awareness of the interrelationship between all things.
I figure most people will look and see an orange and wonder, what’s the big deal? Well, according to Thich Nhat Hanh in contemplating the orange above, one should see the sun, soil, and water that nourished it, the hands that picked and served it.
This is so profound. I have not thought of an orange in such terms before. Now I can see why St. Paul wrote, "rejoice always, give thanks" for upon thinking deeper about the orange, I see how God is in the whole process…and it fills my heart with gratitude.
I was enjoying a warm shower, when it struck me…for me to enjoy such a warm shower, there has to be a source of water, a reservoir where the county gets it towns water, a myriad of pipes and valves, a water boiler, a lot of humans involved and least but not last a shower stall decked with tiles and a pvc floor…and at that moment my heart was flooded with gratitude to God for being the source of water (He separated the water from the land), the source of human intellect to put together all the things and parts necessary to make such a complex water system, the iron ore from the earth and it’s entire process to turn into pipes…I can keep going…indeed we have so much reason to thank God. If only we took a moment to look deeper than appearances…
Next time you find yourself doing anything…or eating anything…take a moment to be grateful.
Be Happy
Anthony Maina
Brethren,
As we come to the end of 2025…a lot has transpired. The good, the bad and the in between. What one chooses to carry forward is personal at best. However, let it not be that one has chosen to carry forward bitterness, for that just kills the burden bearer and not the victimizer. Choose wisely, one has only one life to lead…pour such burden upon Christ…After all His burden is light and his yoke is easy. (Matt 11:28-30). Remember too, whoever hates his brother, has darkness in him or her..(1 John 2:9-11)..and bitterness is hatred stored in one’s heart…
Let me tell you a story:
I was at a Christmas party and I was having a great time. A child (about 10 years old) walked over to me and asked. "Dr. Muriithi, how is it that you are always happy?…smiling! Don’t you get mad…How is it you and your wife are always happy? Don’t you fight, have arguments and get mad?! Tell me, how?"
After a moment of brief silence…(deep thoughts for I realized this moment was crucial)
"We get mad too, we fight, we argue just like everyone else. The only difference, at the end of it all, we choose to be happy! That’s what makes the difference, the choice to be happy." I responded with fatherly gentleness.
The young child returned to his business very content with my answer.
Well, that’s my message to everyone for 2026. ONE NEEDS TO MAKE A DECISION TO BE HAPPY. Happiness is something one has to decide to be and work on being happy…
I wish you all a HAPPY 2026…The year of Happiness since you will choose to be happy and make an effort to be thus despite all the troubles and burdens the world will afford you.
